Velop is a brand of surf sportswear and accompanying boardsport products. The logo is based on the form of a playful sea otter in a blue color to reflect that water environment. This species of otter was chosen because, like humans, sea otters do not have bodies suited to cold ocean temperatures; thus, they rely on thick fur to retain heat and keep cold water away from the skin, just as humans rely on Velop’s wetsuit products for the same purpose. The name “Velop” is derived from the word “envelop”, referring to the full-body nature of wetsuits and a sea otters' fur. The rounded font matches the otters' form as well as the idea of sleek movement through water, which Velop strives for in their products.
